Itinerary and highlights

After pick up from your hotel we will head up to the world famous stairs, the Selaron Steps. The stairs connect the neighborhoods of Lapa and Santa Teresa and are covered with ceramic and art, all done by one artist, Jorge Selaron. There are 250 steps, 125 meters long and more than 2000 tiles from many different countries.

After the steps, we will explore Santa teresa, starting at the Parque das Ruínas, a unique cultural centre, opened in 1994, in the ruins of an old mansion. Featuring an art gallery, a small theater and incredible views of the city.

We will also visit the museum next door, Chácara do Céu. The museum originates from the private collection of businessman and patron Raymundo Ottoni de Castro Maya (1894-1968), partly inherited from his father, partly acquired by himself. The Chácara do Céu museum was created in 1972. In 1983, the foundation was dissolved and the estate, reorganized under the name of Museus Castro Maya, was absorbed by the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional.

We will head up to Largo dos Guimarães, where many handcraft, art shops and restaurants are located. Santa Teresa is a very artistic place with incredible architecture and graffiti art.
